The village schools we visit are in remote locations. The educational insights and understanding towards hygiene, cleanliness, waste management, recycling and other environmental topics is not generally part of school curriculum.
Working alongside the village elders, school principals and teachers, Irrawaddy Voyages has embarked on a Green Awareness project to help the student’s education process in a practical way.
This initiative commenced in 2018 and initially involves our onboard Interpreters and Ships Managers briefing the villagers in a series of formal training seminars.
Irrawaddy Voyages will also be installing large recycling bins at each of the villagers included in our shore excursion locations.
Upon arriving at each village during our scheduled cruises, guest and students may combine for a short period of time (typically 15-20 minutes each visit) to collect recyclable waste products in and around the village.
Every fortnight, the ship’s crew will collect the contents of these bins and place onboard the vessel to transport to our final port of call.
