What To Bring

MYANMAR VISA

Gone are the days of having to travel to a Myanmar embassy to obtain a visa to enter the country. Passport holders from 100 countries are now entitled to apply for an online e-visa providing a speedy process in advance of your travels. Allow for 5 days processing. The tourist visa is valid for a stay of up to 28 days and costs US $50 (March 2018).

US DOLLARS

US dollars are still preferred for many purchasing. Notes should be clean fresh unmarked and undamaged.

A GUIDE BOOK/ TRIP RESEARCH

A guidebook is essential to plan the days ahead. The Lonely Planet Guide provides up to date travel information throughout Myanmar.

ADAPTER FOR PLUGS

Most hotels use the 2 prong European plugs. We recommend traveling with a universal adaptor.

FIRST AID KIT

A mini first aid kit can prove useful on all trips. We suggest bringing a basic kit with the essentials and top it up with any medicines you might need from the numerous street side pharmacies. We suggest bringing Antiseptic Cream, Aspirin, Imodium and Electrolytes.

INSECT SPRAY

A universal insect spray or cream will be useful when traveling overland and a welcome relief particularly in the early evenings.

ELEPHANT PANTS/ LONG SHORTS/ SLEEVED T-SHIRTS

Myanmar sightseeing is filled with temples and pagodas which enforce a well observed dress code. No shoulders exposed and thigh also should be covered. ‘Elephant pants’ are available at low cost in the local markets. For men, the traditional longyis are sold in shops and at street markets; also a nice souvenir to take come with you.

A TORCH OR HEADLAMP

A small and bright torch is an essential piece of Myanmar luggage for a number of reasons. Firstly, street lamps are sparse in cities such as Yangon and Mandalay and the sidewalks are an unpredictable mix of paving stones and gulley’s. Secondly, the temples and pagodas are filled with dark stairways and alleys. To navigate successfully in the dark at sunrise and sunset, bring your torch!

SUNSCREEN AND A HAT

Myanmar is a hot country with high temperatures and UV levels. Sunscreen is a must at all times A broad brimmed hat is perfect for the long and sunny Bagan days when you’re out exploring the temples.

FLIP FLOPS / SANDLES

Travelers will spend much time bare foot due to the requirement to remove footwear when entering pagodas and temples. It’s not optional and there is nothing worse than tying and untying laces every time you enter a pagoda.

HAND SANITISER or WET WIPES

Myanmar days are spent climbing temples, touching the ground and walking through remote sites and locations. The anti-bacterial gels are highly recommended or Wet Wipes are also a great option for washing feet after a temple visit.

A WARM TOP

A mix of cool evenings and air conditioning indoor public areas make a warm jumper essential. A warm top is also useful on the overnight buses.

Shore Excursion Donations - we encourage guests to bring first-aid items or basic school stationery for the local villagers.

We highly recommend only biodegradable or recycled items whenever possible. Please no plastics.
