In 2004, Myanmar’s Sitar Coffee Company developed Arabica coffee at their model experimental site ‘The Sithar Coffee Farm’ at Pyin Oo Lwin, in the Shan State highlands. Their pioneering plantations enjoy the micro-climates of Shan State and thrive at an elevation of 3300ft (1100m).
Sithar is also an avid promoter of gender equality who recruits a diversity of ethnic minority disadvantaged youth from Kachin, Karen, Rakhine, Shan and Irrawaddy divisions.
