Irrawaddy Voyages Fleet Manager Mr Tun Naing was recently inspecting one of the Irrawaddy Voyages vessels, tied-up alongside our base at Gawein Jetty, Mandalay. To his surprise and delight, approximately 20 meters offshore, surfaced a pod of Irrawaddy Dolphins.
Tun Naing and his crew enjoyed the interaction for around twenty minutes before the elusive dolphins continued on their way upstream.
An official survey has found the number of Irrawaddy Dolphins living in a protected area, upper reaches Irrawaddy River, has almost tripled in recent years.
The Irrawaddy Dolphin Protected Area was established in December 2005, spanning a 74-kilometre stretch of the river near Mandalay, from Kyaukmyaung and Singu townships in the north, to Mingun in the south.

Promoting Made In Myanmar Wines
Irrawaddy Voyages is now promoting two established Made in Myanmar wineries. The market leaders are Red Mountain and Myanmar 1st Vineyard Estate; both are geographic neighbors, nestled on the slopes of Inle Lake, Shan State. With a variety of labels from both producers, the pick of the bunch for the 2018/19 cruising season will be Red Mountain’s Sauvignon Blanc 2016 vintage and the Chardonnay 2013 vintage. From Myanmar 1st Vineyard Estate we hand-picked the Ayhtaya Rose and Aythaya Shiraz latest vintages.
Purchasing and promoting locally made products and services further endorses our commitment to sustainable tourism and responsible practices.
Promoting Made In Myanmar Spa
Commencing October 2018, we are proud to launch The Lotus Spa by Irrawaddy Voyages. For the first time we will present two varied menus presenting our massage and spa treatments. Firstly, an array of classic Asian treatments including Thai and Burmese massages, reflexology, facial treatments and nail spa. Secondly, we are introducing an entirely unique Burmese menu of organic natural treatments, which are handed-down in the remote villages from generation to generation. The Lotus Spa by Irrawaddy Voyages is believed to be the only spa in the country to have adopted these traditional wellness experiences.
Washable - Reusable - Sustainable - Organic – Made In Myanmar Bamboo..!
In-keeping with our commitment to the environment, Irrawaddy Voyages has replaced plastic beverage straws with eco-friendly bamboo straws.
Bamboo drinking straws are a fun and eco-friendly alternative to plastic that can be used with any beverage. The straws are made from whole bamboo stalks; nothing re-compressed or processed. Bamboo forests have many environmental benefits as they function as carbon ‘sinks’, produce oxygen, control soil erosion, provide organic matter, regulate water levels in watersheds, conserve biodiversity, beautify the landscape and contribute to the purification of the environment.
